Belial (originally Lior) is an Archangel created by God. His creation involved the use of original negative cosmic energy/ dark matter that resulted in his difference from other angels, including experience of emotions and feelings, unusual powers including element control and light bringing. The struggle to control his feelings resulted in a forbidden relationship with Eve, ending in his exile from Caelum due to someone framing him and making him a culprit in Eve consuming the forbidden fruit.
Exiled into Infernum, Bale received additional powers from Death and became the Devil, Lord of Hell and World Judge. Due to the specifications of human soul creation, Belial acts as a filter between worlds, soaking human negative emotions and energy, resulting in his occasional loss of self-control and beast form. Bale possesses one of the gifts of Death – Quill that allows signing an abiding pact that can't be broken.
Belial restructured Infernum and created an endless city with a population of souls, demons and other supernatural beings. Bale created his company “Infernum Enterprise” in London in order to ease his responsibilities in Underworld with help from Jeremy, Sophie’s father, making him one of the wealthiest people in the world.
Bale offered Sophie an arranged marriage with an excuse to protect her from regular kidnapping as an honour towards her father, however, as later found out, he is truly in love with her for centuries since meeting her in the past.
During the War of Celestial Blades, his powers transformed, giving him God’s abilities to create and transform. Belial is aware of Sophie's inner darkness as the same trait he saw in Jeremy.

Belial is usually calm, witty and sarcastic. He’s very wise due to his age and extremely intelligent and well-spoken. However, he can also be very vengeful and fiery due to his dark nature. He has a defined posh English accent that he developed due to his long residence in London. He can speak all world languages.

She’s an artist and also has good business skills, taking over Belial's company during his absence. Marriage to Belial awoke her powers, including the ability to control elements and later - dark matter.
During the War of Celestial Blades, Sophie discovers dark energy inside her and struggles to control it occasionally. This is because Sophie was created from the same energy as Bale – a dark matter that Lilith’s spell was based on. Sophie possesses one of the gifts of Death – the scythe that can open a portal to any world.

Sophie is an emotional and straightforward person. She is a perfectionist. As a mortal, she suffered from anxiety and panic attacks due to her trauma. After marriage to Bale, Sophie became stronger emotionally, picking up his witty and daring personality traits.

Michael is one of the Archangels of Heaven, given the responsibility to lead its army, train angels in combat and take the role of the General. After Belial’s rebellion, Michael decided to keep an eye on his brother to avoid possible issues that might raise from Bale’s mischievous behaviour.
Michael would move between Caelum and Infernum, living in different families and disguising himself as a human, to stay close to Belial. Soon after Michael met Sophie, noticing Bale’s interest in her and fell in love, wishing to protect her from the Devil’s influence.
Even though Sophie was in love with Michael, he could not accept her feelings due to a taboo between humans and celestial, not knowing that she was immortal.
During the War of Celestial Blades Michael took Bale’s side thanks to Sophie and learned the truth about Bale’s exile and his real intentions towards Sophie. Deciding to protect his brother and help him, Michael lead the army of angels towards victory. Soon after he returned to Caelum to take on leadership responsibilities instead of Raphael.

Michael is a very kind and caring person. He shows concern for humans and sympathises with everyone. He does, however, has a strict opinion towards Belial due to his brother’s fiery temper, sarcastic nature and rebellious nature. Michael is very keen to make his Creator proud as he does everything in his power to look after his younger brother and avoid possible disaster caused by him. Throughout the series Michael shows unusual character traits, including jealousy towards Belial and Sophie, he also presents occasional coldness.

Lizzie was born in Tokyo, but shortly after her family moved to London because of her father’s work. Lizzie was born blind, but her sight came back when she was a baby by a miracle. However, her grandmother still took Lizzie to Aomori, Japan, to undergo rough itako training at a young age.
Lizzie struggled in school for some time due to bullying because of her ability to see spirits. She was on a verge to attempt suicide before being saved by Lilith. After meeting Jeremy and Belial, she was motivated by their guidance and took control over her bullying. Shortly after she met Sophie and they became best friends, as Sophie never minded Lizzie’s abilities (she didn’t believe them much anyway until later).
Lizzie graduated from University with archaeology degree. She met her first love Roberto in uni and they dated for a long time before he broke up with her after finding out about her powers. After a break up Lizzie fell for Raphael as he didn’t mind her witchy abilities and was the one to comfort her.
Soon after break up with Raphael, Lizzie signed a contract with Belial to gain more power.
During the War of Celestial Blades she showed extraordinary skills, but lost her power due to punishment from Death for returning Sophie back from the dead.

Raphael is the oldest of the Archangels and physically strongest of them. He was the one to betray Belial by giving Eve the forbidden fruit due to his anger at Creator for being neglected and mistreated, not expecting Bale to be exiled. Raphael received God’s approval to act as the main leader of Heaven to restructure the city and support its development to prove his worth without knowledge about Raf’s plan to destroy humans. Until he was found to be the culprit, Raf supported Bale regularly by visiting him and spending time with his brother, sharing information on Caelum and acting as a mediator between Hell and Heaven.
Raphael meets Lizzie through Sophie. They fall in love and date for a short time before Raphael is revealed to be an enemy.
Raphael meets William, a witch experimenting with black magic. He uses his magick powers to help with the plan.
During the war of Celestial Blades, Raphael leads an army of rebellious angels and demons against Belial. As punishment for betrayal, Lizzie puts a spell on him, taking away Raf’s angelic powers but keeping his immortality.

Gabriel acts as God’s messenger, passing information to humans from celestial world thanks to her ability to create illusions. She follows Jeremy’s request to hide the key to Eve’s box and reveals its secret later to Sophie.
She has a one-night stand with Martin due to her curiosity for humans.
Gaby joins Belial’s side during the War of Celestial Blades and gets saved by Sophie from Raphael’s attack, resulting in Sophie’s death. After war she returns to Caelum to spend time with her father and catch up on all those lost years.

Astrid was born in Sweden during Kalmar war and became an orphan at a very young age due to her parents dying from plague. She was raised by a kitchen maid that worked in a wealthy house and Astrid became best friends with the daughter of the estate owner. She fell in love with a man who was soon recalled for war and sold her soul to Belial to save her lover’s life. Shortly after his return she found out about his affair with her best friend and was murdered by them.
Becoming a demon Astarta, she worked for Belial for some time before meeting Jeremy and helping him in the journey to find Bale. They fell in love and due to Jeremy’s struggle to return to Caelum, Astrid agreed for a spell to help both stay together. Losing most of her powers, she got pregnant and gave birth to Sophie.
During the War of Celestial Blades, Astrid showed dangerous power of soul control that previously earned her a nickname of The Soul Crusher. She also started a relationship with Azazel – Belial’s Hell secretary.

Jeremy was created by Death as the first Angel of Death.
He was placed in Caelum to keep an eye on Jehovah and Belial, and later help Bale in finding the one who betrayed the Devil. During his journey in search for Bale, Jeremy met Astrid and they fell in love. Raphael blocked his way back to Caelum and Jeremy seeked help from Lilith, accepting her spell to break his connection with Heaven.
Jeremy married Astrid and started a business, helping Bale with his own business development. Belial bought his company after Jeremy's death. After Sophie’s birth, Jeremy did his best to protect her from kidnappers, saving her on the day of his death.
Personality: Jeremy is a very kind and caring person, easy-going and gentle. Even though he’s very friendly, Jeremy is very strong and often shows willingness to break rules for the safety of his family.

Alastor was born during Kamakura period as Arato Imamura. His father was a Lotus gang member before he met Arato’s mother – a refugee from Korea during war times. Arato’s parents died when he was a young adult. It happened during times he was also a Lotus gang member. After leaving his criminal past, Arato became a samurai working for Emperor’s army.
After being attacked by the Lotus gang, he was wounded and saved by Asami. Both shortly fall in love and marry, having their daughter Hanako. Asami dies from an illness during an epidemic and in order to save his daughter from same fate, Arato signs a contract with Belial.
Shortly after he is killed by a Lotus member and becomes a demon. Alastor is assigned as a bodyguard for Sophie. He also finds out that Lizzie is his relative.
During the War of Celestial Blades Alastor protects Sophie and is wounded fatally, finally resting his soul in Caelum together with Asami.

Personality: Alastor is very patient, quiet and shy. He’s extremely professional and a man of few words. However, occasionally he shows a more open and witty personality with his close friends and also presents a passionate temper towards Lilith.

Mariana was born during 50s and during her mortal life was an orphan. She met Rosie when they were little and almost immediately they became friends. Mariana always protected Rosie and after the latter became a victim of sexual abuse from her foster parent, Mariana sold her soul to Belial in exchange for Rosie’s safety. She is known to be the youngest of anyone who ever signed the pact with the Devil at the age of seven.
When Rosie was taken in by Belial, Mariana continued her life in the orphanage, going from one foster family to another and soon getting into a rebellious group of teenagers. Committing a few minor criminal acts like theft and drug dealing, Mariana soon became a sex worker as soon as she turned eighteen. At the age of twenty-three, she got a job as an exotic dancer in a strip club to earn some money for education and life improvement. She was sexually abused and raped on the street and shortly after she was killed in a car accident on her birthday when a drunk driver hit her and fled.
Mariana became a demon named Mara and was the only one whom Bale permitted to see a friend regularly - Rosie. This was his birthday present to her.
Mara is one of the strongest demons and was gifted with control of Fire by Bale. Once they had a fling and had a one-night stand when Bale was in his female form. Both are good friends.
During the War of celestial Blades, Mara helped Bale to clear his reputation, lead the demon army and promoted herself to a General of Hell after Asmodeus’s betrayal. Mara was the one to kill William as an act of revenge.
She loses her leg during battle and later wears a prosthetic one made of titanium and hell diamonds, designed by Eric and Anthony.
Personality: Mara is very fiery and short-tempered, hence Belial’s choice to gift her with Fire control. Even though she tried to appear strong and unphased, Mara is a very loyal friend and a kind person.

Lilith was the first human to be created by God. She was gifted with magickal abilities and became his apprentice. Lilith was in love with Adam, but he was promised to Eve, however during Eve’s affair with Lior, Adam and Lilith drank from Heavenly springs and had an affair together under the influence.
During exile, God gave Lilith his Celestial Journal with spells and magickal texts.
After the exile, Lilith fell in love with the mortal world and made a deal with Bale for her immortality in exchange for a favour. However, as the deal was forbidden, Death punished Lilith by taking away her ability to have children.
Throughout her life, Lilith travelled the world, joining Bale for some time and then going her own way once again. Due to her magickal powers, she was subject to witch trials, slavery and unfair and unjust treatment for centuries. She tried to end her life several times due to loneliness, but Death would always stop her.
Lilith was the one to teach William magick during the 5th Century.
Lilith saved Alastor’s daughter from death by sharing her golden blood with the girl in a magickal spell.
Lilith also occasionally met with Alastor during his service to Bale and fell in love with him, however, he was always loyal to his late wife.
In modern times, Lilith fell in love with a street musician in New Orleans, and they both lived together for a short time, but storm Katrina took him away.
In present times Lilith fulfilled her bargain with the Devil and helped Astrid and Jeremy with a spell, resulting in Sophie’s birth.
During the War of Celestial Blades, Lilith showed great powers, helped victims and also united all gifted and witches in the battle for justice. After the war, Lilith helped Lizzie get her powers back and also looked after Al’s apartment, finding out about his past.
Personality: Lilith is a very gentle, wise and calm person. She often charms with her smile and magickal aura. She can be quite flustered around Alastor and gets angry when people don’t listen to her.

Paimon was born during the Viking Era as a son of Frode, the village leader. He was named Silfr because of his silver hair. Due to forbidden interests in males, Silfr was bullied and shunned by his father, soon escaping the village and ending up in the enemy’s home. There he met Eric – the village leader's son. Both became friendly and soon developed romantic feelings towards each other.
Silfr murdered his own father in self-defence and asked Eric to take the credit for himself in order to earn the village leader’s respect. Both kept their feelings secret, but Eric died young due to illness and Silfr went on travelling. Dying in a shipwreck, Silfr ended up in Hell. Refusing to move on in the afterlife, he preferred to become a demon and take on the job of Hell’s fashionista – designing Devil’s attire, demon’s armour, and interior and later opening a few boutiques around the mortal world.
Shortly after meeting Sophie, Paimon welcomed reincarnated Eric into his boutique and both reconciled, finally allowing their romance to be free and accepted.
During the War of Celestial Blades Paimon and Eric lose their boutique, but save a little girl named Ophelia when her mother threw the baby out the window during the city’s destruction. Both decide to adopt her. Paimon fought on Bale’s side during the war and showed his exceptional warrior skills on the battlefield.
Personality: Paimon is very bubbly, friendly and open. He is a kind demon with love for humans and the whole world. He is a very talented designer and also a very skilled warrior. Paimon can be very protective of his family and friends and shows extreme coldness towards those who hurt them.

Eric was born during the Viking Era as a son of Arne, the village’s leader. Eric never showed any interest in fighting and preferred to spend days crafting jewellery and trinkets. Arne was unhappy about the fact that his son was weak and uninterested in inheriting the authority.
Eric met Paimon, the son of the leader of the neighbourhood enemy village and both soon became friendly, sharing their unwillingness in pursuing their father’s dreams. Eric was first confused by Paimons romantic feelings toward him but soon realised that he was experiencing the same emotions. Both kept their relationship secret until Eric died of illness.
Eric’s soul refused to move on, so he was reincarnated several times in search of his lover, undergoing tough parenting from his fathers, misunderstanding and bullying. During present times Eric was born into a religious family. His father Ronald, the priest, was against Eric’s sexual preferences and interests and fought against Eric’s fantasies about a silver-haired man, who turned out to be Paimon later.
Running away from home, Eric ended up in Paimon’s boutique thanks to Bale’s guidance and both reconciled, helping Eric return his memories.
During the War of Celestial Blades, Eric and Paimon save a little girl Ophelia, adopting her. Both fought on Bale’s side, showing their warrior skills. Eric was one of the craftsmen who designed and created Mara’s prosthetic leg and everyone’s armour. He was gifted immortality by Death for saving her from a car accident.

Personality: Eric is very shy and quiet. He is a very kind young man with pure intentions. However, he can show strict attitude towards those who hurt his family and also presented occasional dominance in love relationship with Paimon.

Rosie was born in London and became an orphan shortly. She had a rough childhood while in an orphanage and went through sexual abuse from one of her foster parents at a young age. She became friends with Mara, who was in the same orphanage as her. Thanks to Mara’s sacrifice and deal with the Devil, Rosie was taken by Bale, living in his house and looking after it.
Growing up, Rosie stayed loyal to Bale and was always grateful to him for allowing her to see Mara regularly when the latter became a demon. Both became lovers shortly after. Rosie always looked after the residence and Bale, treating him as a fatherly figure first, then as a crush and later in her life – as a son. She showed him the importance of kindness and love.
During the War of Celestial Blades, Rosie was interrogated by William about Eve’s box and later murdered by him. As Rosie always refused to take on a deal with the Devil to become a demon to be able to honour Mara’s sacrifice for a long life, Rosie chose to continue her soul journey to Heaven. She then decided to work in Heaven’s castle as Head Housekeeper.

Personality: Rosie is one of the kindest and sweetest people Bale and Sophie knew. She always looked after them and comforted them when needed. She treats Mara very lovingly and shows incredible patience towards the Devil’s firey temper.

Roberto was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He took an archaeology degree in London and often stays in both locations between travelling for his work as a Project Officer Archeologist.
During University studies, Roberto fell in love with Lizzie and they started dating.
After finding out about Lizzie’s powers and the people around her, Roberto got anxious and scared, breaking up with her and leaving. However, shortly after he regretted it and tried asking for her forgiveness, however, it was too late because she already started her relationship with Raphael.
During the War of Celestial Blades, after Raphael’s betrayal, Roberto helped his friends in the battle, using magickal arrows. He also earned Lizzie’s forgiveness and both reinstated their relationship.

Personality: Roberto is a very open, friendly, sociable person. He rarely shies away and prefers to be straightforward and honest. He’s deeply in love with Lizzie and does all he can to deal with her often-changing personality.

Martin was born in London. He was taken into foster care at an early age due to his mother being a drug addict and his father being non-existent. Martin’s grandmother took care of him for a short while, but when she passed away, he was back to foster care.
Martin served in Royal Navy as a sniper and gained crucial fighting skills during that period. He found his service quite difficult mentally and soon quit. At the start of the series, Martin works in Astrid’s coffee shop and lives upstairs in a small apartment. He is a gamer and a very good computer tech.
Throughout the series, he helps his friends on adventures and later received a job at Infernum Enterprise as Chief Design and Technology Officer, helping with Bale’s S.O.U.L project and acting as a mediator between Hell and Earth.
During the War of Celestial Blades, Martin meets Gaby and falls in love, spending the night with her, however, this relationship does not bloom due to Gaby’s nature and uninterest. Martin plays a pivotal role in the war, using technology as a way to communicate with allies around the world and helping Lilith with a spell to summon power for Bale through universal prayer. After the war, Martin becomes the CEO of Infernum Enterprise alongside Sophie and Bale, as the latter had to return to Infernum and Sophie took time off due to her pregnancy and childcare. It is also mentioned that Martin started dating an employee of the company.
Personality:
Martin is a goofy and bubbly man, often described as lazy and laidback. However, in truth, he suffers from depression and life is hard for him. At first, he felt isolated from his friends but then realised his worth, and it helped in his personal and work life.

During the War of Celestial Blades, Aegu doesn’t show up. However, after the war, they appeared to Lizzy during her time travels. Aegu guided Lizzy and gave a few pieces of advice on how to manage time travelling without consequences.
Personality: Aegu seems to be very uninterested in anything, that happens. They only want to make sure that nobody messes up the time continuum and get pretty annoyed when someone does the time travelling spell. Aegu is always in a rush and is very strict with those, who are greedy for more time or waste it.

Asami was born in feudal Japan, during the Kamakura period. She was an orphan, raised by her grandmother Hana. Asami lived in a little village called Kokoro. Once she met wounded Arato in the middle of the forest, saved him and treated his wounds. Both fell in love and after accepting Arato’s criminal past and his priority for service to the Emperor, both married and had a daughter named Hanako.
During war times, Asami got ill with the plague and soon died, leaving Arato with their daughter.
Her soul proceeded to Heaven.
During the War of Celestial Blades, Asami’s soul was called in from Heaven by Lilith’s spell to help in the battle. After Alastor’s death, both reconciled in heaven.
Personality: Asami was a very kind, gentle and sweet young woman. She truly loved Arato and was always patient in waiting for him to return home. She was known for being clumsy, though.

Hanako is the Daughter of Asami and Alastor. She was saved by Lilith when she got ill with the plague and received magickal abilities from the witch. Hanako was the first witch of the family and developed her skills with the help of Lilith and personal research.
During Lizzie’s time travels, Hanako shares her life story, including being married to a samurai and having three children. Hanako was threatened by the Lotus gang several times, however, thanks to her witchcraft skills, she scared them off and earned their respect.
In the war with Mongols, Hanako helped to protect her village with the help of Lizzie. She also helped Lizzie to gain some more power and found out the truth about her father, Arato. During the war, Hanako lost one of her sons, however, she managed to live until very old age and once summoned Alastor, without him knowing her identity. She gave Al her marble pendant and asked him to give it to Belial. This pendant was gifted to Lizzie after.
Personality: Hanako is a very fiery, strong and powerful woman. She’s gentle like her mother, however, she inherited her father’s will to fight and never gives up.

William was born in the 5th century in Constantinople. His father was a tradesman who was killed on the streets by robbers. William was left to survive by himself. He was often bullied by residents of the city and soon after he was taken as a student by Lilith after showing little magick ability. He studied magick from Lilith and got obsessed with it, wanting to gain more power and become immortal. His obsession made his wife leave him and his wish to learn black magick made Lilith stop their lessons. William got angry and sought power elsewhere.
He tried to gain immortality from Bale, however, the latter refused, making William even more angry.
Shortly after deciding to leave Constantinople, he met Michael, who offered him immortality in exchange for a favour to get Bale back to Hell. William agreed and gained his desired immortality, however, he was punished by Thana, who cursed him by letting his organs and body rot from the inside, even though he was immortal. For centuries, William was suffering from pain and stiff muscles.
During the War of Celestial Blades, William was the main antagonist, working alongside Raphael to destroy humans and gain more power. William killed Rosie by torturing her and burning her alive. He was restrained by Sophie and Astrid and killed by Mara.
Personality: William is a very greedy, jealous and mean person. He has an obsession with power and immortality. He has no remorse for anyone and can easily commit murder.

Azam died in a shipwreck and became a demon, earning Belial’s trust and receiving the water control power from him. Azazel became Hell’s secretary due to his good organisation and leadership skills. He is responsible for the Administrative department of hell and all documentation.
During the War of Celestial Blades, Azazel helped in the battle. He fought alongside Astrid, who he fell in love and started a relationship with.
Personality: Azazel is a very controlled, calm and serious man. He always keeps his professional manner, even though occasionally shows a very passionate pirate nature towards Astrid.

When she ends up the last one to stay alive from all exiled humans after a few decades, she gets attacked by Raphael and kills herself with Abaddon’s dagger wishing to see Bale and tell him the truth about Raphael, allowing her soul to travel to Infernum. However, before getting to Bale she meets Raphael again and he threatens to kill Adam, if she tells the truth. Instead, she takes punishment from Bale for her lies on trial and he locks her up in Tartarus.
During the War of Celestial Blades, Eve gets freed by Sophie. She earns forgiveness from Bale and helps the group defeat Raphael. During the battle, Eve helps the wounded.
Personality: Eve is very bubbly, a bit shy and playful. After her imprisonment in Tartarus, however, she became more mature and serious. She went through several traumatic attempts that made her interested in human Psychology, allowing her to use knowledge and experience in treating Celestials.
